I am back in Vancouver one more time but this time with my own van. I made it just in time to enjoy a 4 days cruise in company of Paul and Miriel. We set sail with “Tyra”, the newly acquired boat by the Vikings boat club and enjoyed beautiful conditions along the Sunshine Coast.

I got really excited to film our little sail cruise with the drone. What I didn’t realize at first is that it is not easy to take off and land from a moving object. So I waited to be on land to take off and when I finally did, the drone would not fly 50m away, like there was the beginner mode on. I tried everything but couldn’t figure it out! Later on, I finally discover that the last update would do just that, you have to logoff and login again and of course, in most beautiful places, there is no cellular data. Yet another issue with the complex toy from DJI!

The ocean was always close to us when I grow up so naturally we sailed a lot when I was younger with my dad but it stop brutally when I was around 12. Recently, I started to sail again in the Charles River in Boston whenever I could, every lunch break actually. But it was little “bath tubs”. Sailing a legit sail boat with actual living space that weighs many tons was a solid different experience. It was a test sail for everyone and the crew of 5 we were did really good overall. Everyone found its spot and I think also everyone has lost at least one item. I personally lost a shoe and and sunglasses to the ocean.

We left from Vancouver and sailed 200 nautique miles in 4 days and back.

Sailing conditions were different than what I previously experienced because there was a lot of courant and sometimes even thought we had a good impression of speed our relative speed was close to null. But overall we were lucky to have some excellent conditions. We also spend some time on land including the charming Hornby Island on the way back. Sailing felt good and we discuss with Paul and Miriel to rent another sail boat next winter or spring.
